Welcome to Blue Springs, Missouri.

Blue Springs is located in Jackson County just east of Kansas City along Interstate 70 near the Missouri River. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 48,080. Blue Springs' location provides the perfect opportunity to take advantage of both local and metropolitan cultural and entertainment events.

Almost every day brings some type of community event or concert to the Blue Springs area. Cultural attractions include the Nelson-Atkins Museum and Gallery, the Kansas City Symphony, the State Ballet of Missouri and local art shows and craft fairs.

Burr Oak Woods Nature Center - Located one mile north of I-70 on Missouri 7 Highway, the Missouri Department of Conservation operates this area which includes a 15,000 square foot nature center and 1,071 acres of prairies, glades, forest, ponds and streams.

Five hiking trails allow you to enjoy these diverse habitats. Also available are picnic areas. A 3,000-gallon aquarium in the Nature Center is stocked with native Missouri fishes, reptiles and amphibians. There is also children's area and a Night Gallery, which add to the unique atmosphere of the Center.

Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest - This fall festival spans two weeks in September. The festival traditionally begins with the Barbecue Blaze-Off at Baumgardner Park, 2401 Ashton Drive. The next weekend, downtown Blue Springs is taken over by more than 200 craft and food booths. A parade is the weekend's highlight.

Blue Springs offers a tremendous parks system encompassing 14 parks and over 300 acres. Lighted baseball, softball and tennis courts are available with playground equipment, shelter houses and restroom facilities nearby. The Centennial Pool-Plex, a two pool complex with a removable roof for year-round swimming, is open to the public for instruction, lap swimming and all types of water fun. The Parks and Recreation Department handles all reservations for the parks and offers picnic kits with sporting equipment to help make your outing even more special. Blue Springs BMX track is located in Pink Hill Park and has full competition tournaments.

Additionally, the Jackson County Parks system, including Lake Jacomo and Blue Springs Lake, adds another 3,000 acres of park land to our area. Both lakes have full-service marines, swimming beaches and shelter house facilities. Campsites are also available.

Golf facilities are available both in and around Blue Springs. For practice we have Family Golf Park with a lighted driving range, a 3 par - 9 hole golf course, heated tee, grass tees, sand trap, chipping area and putting green. They also offer miniature golf, a concession area, party area and golf shop.

The Blue Springs School District is an energetic, progressive and rapidly growing school district. Although the majority of the students reside in the city of Blue Springs, the district also includes segments of Independence, Lee's Summit and Grain Valley. The district is widely recognized for its commitment to quality education.

Nationally recognized the Blue Springs R-IV School District earned Expansion Management Magazine's Gold Medal Award, its highest award for quality education and community resources and support. In addition, the Blue Springs School District was singled out by the Wall Street Journal as one of the top school districts in the nation. The district continues to earn dozens of awards annually for its academic programs and student performance.

Facilities include 12 elementary schools, four middle schools, a freshman center and two high schools. The curriculum is evaluated on a regular basis and is geared to teaching life skills and preparing the student for either continuing education or entry into the work force. Leading edge courses like Senior Seminar and college credit courses show the district's commitment to a complete, well-rounded education for their students. Students are recognized for outstanding academic achievement and improvement throughout the Accent on Academics Week and Renaissance Program.

In addition to academics, both high schools offer 19 competitive athletic programs, ROTC, and a wide array of extracurricular academic clubs and organizations. The District has received the highest rating (AAA) by the State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for 36 consecutive years. Both high schools are North Central accredited. The District also has a multi-district Special Services Center to serve handicapped and disabled children, offers a Parents as First Teachers Program and is the location for the Eastern Jackson County High School.
